Moving in Chula Vista, East and West of I-805
In Chula Vista, the first thing we ask is which side of I-805 you're moving from. West of the freeway are the older neighborhoods, from the blocks around Third Avenue south to Castle Park, with single-family homes on established streets and apartment buildings near downtown. East of it are the master-planned communities of Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rolling Hills Ranch, where newer two-story homes come with an HOA. The two sides call for different plans.

West Chula Vista: Older Homes, Bigger Lots
West side homes were mostly built decades ago, often on larger lots, and a lot of these neighborhoods have no HOA, so the rules that matter are the street's: where the truck is allowed to park and how far the crew carries. Mature trees can hang low over a driveway, so we look up as well as down when we pick the truck's spot. Leaving a family home you've owned for years? Our senior moving service helps sort what moves with you, what goes into storage and what passes to family.
East Side: Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rolling Hills Ranch
East of I-805 the houses are newer and the rules are in writing. HOAs here may set move hours, limit how long a truck or storage container can sit on the street, or ask for notice ahead of the date, so read your CC&Rs or call the management company before you lock in a day. Two-story floor plans put the bedrooms upstairs, which means stairs on most loads, and some cul-de-sacs leave little room for a big truck to turn around.
Pricing a Move Across Chula Vista
- Which side, and how far. Eastlake to the west side still counts as local and hourly, so the route and the time of day we drive it matter.
- Stairs. A two-story house adds trips up and down to every load.
- HOA limits. Short move hours can split a large house across two days.
- Packing. Full packing, a few rooms or none at all, and the estimate shows which.
Estimates are free and written. Ours start with either a home visit from a Relocation Consultant or a virtual survey, run by an Inside Sales Representative, that inventories the house room by room. Leaving the area? Past roughly 150 miles, whether you stay in California or cross a state line, the cost is figured from weight and distance, and packing is billed per unit.
Common Chula Vista Questions
Do you move businesses in Chula Vista?
Yes, including offices, medical practices and retail spaces. See Chula Vista commercial movers.
Should I get a binding or non-binding estimate?
That choice comes with long distance moves. A binding estimate gives you certainty: the quoted price stands, and it can only change if you add to the inventory or the services, the shipment goes to another address or the load date shifts. A non-binding estimate can move up or down with the actual weight of the shipment. Moves within the South Bay are hourly, so neither applies. More on long distance moving.
