Movers in the City of Orange, CA
Old Towne Orange is home to what the city calls the largest National Register historic district in California, and most of it is houses: Craftsman bungalows and Victorians on tree-lined blocks around the Plaza. Moving into one takes more planning than a newer tract home, mostly because of how these houses were built and where a truck can park.

Moving Into a Craftsman or Victorian in Old Towne
Houses built a century ago weren't laid out for a modern sectional. Before the crew carries anything, we look at four things:
- Doorways and stairs. Openings run narrow, and stairs in two-story Victorians are steep and often turn. We measure the tight spots at the estimate and take legs, doors and headboards off when that's what it takes.
- Floors and woodwork. Original hardwood and old banisters get runners and pads before the first piece moves.
- The porch. Bungalows and Victorians usually sit up a few front steps, which matters most for a piano. Our piano movers plan the lift before moving day.
- The curb. Mature parkway trees line much of Old Towne and cars often fill both curbs, so we check for low branches and find where the truck can legally park.
It's better to learn a sofa won't clear the landing at the estimate than with the crew halfway up the stairs.
Chapman University's Move Weeks
Chapman University is a short walk north of the Plaza, and many of its students rent houses in the surrounding blocks rather than apartments. Those leases tend to turn over when the spring semester ends in May and again before fall classes in August, so both stretches book up early. A student move is often a bedroom, a desk and a bike, which is what our small moves are for, and anything that isn't going home for the summer can wait in storage until fall.
How We Price a Move in Orange
Labor Day weekend is the first thing we check, because the Orange International Street Fair closes the center of Old Towne to traffic. After that it's the house: a narrow door, a turning staircase or a long carry up from the curb all add crew time on an hourly move. Long distance shipments usually travel on a full-size tractor-trailer, and on a tight Old Towne street we may plan a smaller truck to shuttle out to it.
A move from Orange to San Diego or North County is a local move, so you pay hourly for the crew and the truck. Longer moves in California and moves to another state are priced on weight and mileage instead, plus packing by the unit, and there you can ask for a binding estimate, which can't go up unless you add things or services, switch the delivery address or change the load date. A Relocation Consultant can tour the house with you; if you'd rather skip the visit, an Inside Sales Representative can do it by video or from a list you send. Either way the estimate is free and written. Our long distance moving page covers out-of-state moves.
Orange Moving Questions
What is the cheapest day to hire movers?
We don't publish prices, but on an hourly local move, what saves money is what saves crew time: boxes packed and taped before the crew arrives, a clear path to the truck, and a date away from Labor Day weekend's street fair and Chapman's move weeks, when Old Towne's streets are at their busiest. Midweek dates in the middle of the month are also the easiest to book. For current hourly rates, call 1.858.360.1569.
Is a move from Orange to San Diego a local move?
Yes. Local moves are the ones within roughly 100 to 150 miles, and San Diego is inside that, so you pay for crew and truck time. Our own office is in San Marcos, up in North County.
