Moving On and Off Coronado, CA
Every Coronado move begins with a route. Coming from downtown or the north, the truck crosses the San Diego-Coronado Bridge; from Imperial Beach or Chula Vista it can run up SR-75 along the Silver Strand. Which way we come, and at what hour, depends on base traffic and on where you live on the island: a Village cottage, a Shores tower or a house in the Cays.

Crossing at the Right Hour
On weekday mornings the heavy traffic heads onto the island toward NAS North Island, and Caltrans shifts a movable barrier on the bridge to give the commute extra lanes. In the afternoon the flow reverses. We try to cross against it. Summer weekends add beach and hotel traffic on Orange Avenue near the Hotel del Coronado, so Village loads start early in the day.
Village Cottages, Shores Towers and the Cays
- The Village. Older cottages and bungalows on the grid around Orange Avenue, many with a garage or parking off the rear alley. We load from the alley or the street, whichever gives the shorter legal carry.
- Coronado Shores. In the ten condo towers on Avenida del Mundo, plan on reserving the elevator and sending the building office the mover's insurance certificate, which we provide.
- Coronado Cays. A gated community down the Strand, with homes along the water. Let the gate know the date and our company name so the crew isn't held at the entrance.
Orders to North Island or the Amphibious Base
NAS North Island is on the island and Naval Amphibious Base Coronado is just down the Strand, so many Coronado moves follow PCS orders. We plan around the report date, and if housing at the next station isn't ready, your things can wait in our bar-coded warehouse. Our military moving services page and the PCS guide for Southern California bases cover the rest.
How a Coronado Estimate Works
What changes the price on the island is the hour we cross, the access at your door (an alley, a tower elevator or a guard gate) and whether your things need storage before the next duty station. A Relocation Consultant can visit at no cost and see that access firsthand; if a visit doesn't suit, our Inside Sales Representative surveys the house by video. Moves on the island or around the bay run on the clock, with one hourly rate for crew and truck. Leave the state and the math changes: the shipment is weighed, the mileage counted and packing billed per unit. A binding estimate locks that price; only added items or services, a change of destination or a moved load date can reopen it.
Island Move Questions
When should I book a summer move on the island?
As soon as you have orders or a closing date. Summer is the busiest season for PCS moves and for visitors on the island, and end-of-month dates go first.
Can you pack art and fragile pieces?
Yes. We pack and crate fragile items, from framed art to heirloom furniture. See packing services, and for paintings and sculpture, the fine art moving guide.
